Make your
PSU into a tester
July 1, 2007
By: Collin
What you will need:
Any type of power
supply (20 or 24 pin)
Electrical Tape
Some type of insulated wire
Scissor or wire cutters (for cutting wire)
Summary:
In this tutorial I will show you how to modify any computer power
suppy
so you can easily turn on and off fans, a water cooling pump, or any
other components without supplying power to your motherboard.
STEP 1:

On every computer power
supply main connector there is a green wire and a couple
of black wires (These are our grounding wires). Located these two wires
because we
will be connecting them shortly.
STEP 2:

So take the wire you cut
(in this case I just used some spare wire I had laying around)
and after stripping the ends off, insert the two ends into the green
wire connector and
any of the black wire connectors.
STEP 3:

After you have inserted the
wire make sure you use some electrical tape to protect and
secure the wire. You dont want that current accidentally jumping around
to all the
metal in your case!
STEP 4:

Now tuck your connector
somewhere safe and out of the way. I tucked mine away in
the front of the case behind a divider. Well thats it for the tutorial.
You have now
successfully modding your power supply!
NOTE:
The power switch on the back of your psu will now be your power switch.
In my case,
my unit does not have one, so it will simply turn on when I plug it in.
Heres an example:
